Well, wow! We had a great Easter on Ilha Grande. While it felt nothing like Easter to us, we did enjoy a little mountainous rain forest hiking, ran into some monkeys, crabs, a porcupine, and the ugliest opossum ever (or was it a rat?), we spent some time in the blue-green crystal clear water of fabulous beaches, saw some of the most interesting street mutts involving wiener dog heritage, found out the secret to Brasilian super-human powers (which, oh yes, I will be sharing with you!), took a boat ride up to a gorgeous snorkeling location, ate some delicious meals, discovered what may well be the worst pousada on the island, scouted out some better places to stay for next time, spent our days slathered with SPF 50 (skin cancer is not our friend), napped in the sand under a shade tree while listening to waves crash, rode an awesome 8+ hour roller coaster (oh, wait, actually that was our bus), found out that Brasilians drive boats just as crazy as they do cars, witnessed a sailor fight (on our boat!), walked down powdery white beaches holding hands like we were on our honeymoon again, checked out an old church, totally eluded the Easter Bunny (sad, I know), and arrived back in Belo Horizonte at 4:30 this morning totally exhausted but ready and willing to do it all over again in a heartbeat!
I can't wait to tell you all about it, but first I need a nap. Stay tuned over the next couple of days for lots of pictures and, of course, stories. I will be kind enough to leave you with a little preview now.
